Plastic Surgery Staff St. Simons Island

    Jody Stanton – Physician’s Assistant

Dr. Bowen and the staff at Golden Isles Center for Plastic Surgery are pleased to announce Jody Stanton PA-C, A.T.C. has joined as Dr. Bowen’s Surgical Physician Assistant.

Jody began her career in Sports Medicine after attaining her B.S. and MA. She had the opportunity to work with High School, Collegiate, Professional and Olympic Athletes.

During her “Sports Medicine” career Jody learned of the exciting and dynamic field of Physician Assistant studies. She went on to get her degree at the University of Oklahoma.

After graduating she worked in Family Practice and Sports Medicine for about 15 years. The past two years Jody has been working in “Multi Specialty Surgery” as a surgical Physician Assistant in Cocoa Beach, Florida. This along with her mission trips broadened her interests into the field of Plastic Surgery. “A typical day for me in Cocoa Beach would be starting by assisting a surgeon with his brain surgery case, then moving over to help with a Breast Augmentation or Reconstruction, and ending the day assisting with a Total Hip Replacement” states Stanton.

Jody, along with a church group out of Savannah, GA, has been to Haiti four times and has her next trip planned for October of this year. Jody explains, “In each trip I see disfiguring skin burns, lesions or trauma that have alienated men, women and children from their villages or communities.” These experiences inspired her to learn more in the field of Plastic Surgery. “The art form of Plastic surgery allows us to repair or reconstruct the disfiguring and disabling injuries. Plastic Surgery is very interesting and exciting for me in applications here at home & those abroad.” She has also been on the “Mercy Ship” to Africa and once to Honduras.

On a personal note, Jody spends her off time boating, biking or running. “Anything outdoors to enjoy God’s beauty!” exclaims the new physician assistant at Golden Isles Center for Plastic Surgery.

When asked, Dr. Diane Bowen is very pleased to have Jody at her side assisting her in surgery and helping in the office. “The patients seem to really like her, her schedule is building more quickly than I had thought.” According to Elizabeth Johnson, RN, Director of Marketing, Jody joining the practice came just in time. “Dr. Bowen’s practice is really growing and no one wants to wait 2 months when they make the decision to have a cosmetic procedure” states Johnson. Jody will be seeing patients in the St. Simons Island and Waycross locations.

A Physician Assistant, also referred to as a PA, is a professional member of the health care team, qualified by intense training to function under the supervision of a physician. PAs can provide many of the services typically provided by a physician. They perform physical exams, diagnose illnesses, develop and carry out treatment plans, order and interpret lab tests, suture wounds, apply casts, assist in surgery, provide patient education and preventative health care counseling. A PA can do whatever is delegated to him or her by the supervising physician and is allowed by law. In most states, a PA can treat patients when the physician is away from the office. The Physician Assistant is now a physician replacements, but provides an efficient way for physicians to extend health care services to you and your family.
